Leaving Rothenburg, arriving in Salzburg

Woke up bright and early to eat breakfast and walk around the wall in Rothenburg. It was absolutely gorgeous, spectacular views. It's so hard to capture everything you see with a camera and do the place justice.

The walk was lovely and the weather on the cooler side, which made it quite enjoyable. We ended with a stroll downtown. Dad and I climbed the tower (city hall). We got all the way to the top and there was a lady collecting money with about 5 stairs to go. They get you every time. Dad wanted to get the view on video from up there. It was definitely worth the 2 Euro.

I finally made it to the famous Christmas store with only minutes to spare. Dad realized how late it was and that we had to get back to the hotel to check out in less than 10 minutes. I think I did about 3 laps of the store. Every time I would go to a new section the ladies would close off one section and make you walk all the way around again. I quickly picked two ornaments for my tree, but to be honest, I don't even remember what they look like now. Wish we would've had more time in there. There is, however, another Kathe W. store in Salzburg with more Christmas stuff and Easter eggs...saw them in the window after dinner tonight.

After a morning of walking and running around, trying to get everything in, some people were tired!!! It could be that we were, and are still suffering from the time change. Some people did not have faith in Lily, our GPS guide, and got a little upset when we were taken off the main highway to avoid road work. The scenic tour of German was beautiful, but we did end up getting back on the main highway.  Other people were just as short. One person tried to ignore it all and sleep through it. That wasn't me! Once people were fed and we were en route to Dachau it all seemed better...only until we arrived at Dachau to find out that they're closed on Mondays. Seriously? Who closes a Memorial Concentration Camp on a Monday??? At least I can say I've been there, although I wish I had been able to tour the place to understand more of the history.

We finally arrived in Salzburg around 5pm...maybe earlier. Dad made our reservation for dinner, funniest thing ever! He was yelling in the phone: "This evening!...This evening!...Jack!...Jack!...Six thirty!...Six thirty!............SIX THIRTY!!!"

Salzburg is one town you definitely need a GPS in. There are one-way streets and then streets that end suddenly, not allowing you to cross the river into the old city. We eventually made it to dinner and it was well worth it.

It may not look super appetizing in this picture, but I know both Julie and Mel can remember the taste of that veal! As we were sitting talking over dinner it hit me that Mom and Dad have eaten at the same restaurant with Julie (10 years ago) and Mel (5 years ago). How cool is that--to have had dinner with all your daughters, on three separate occasions, half-way across the world! Love it!

Well, I was tired an hour ago, but must've gotten a second wind...or just wanted to make sure I was writing my daily post and not leaving it for the morning.

Tomorrow's agenda: Sound of Music tour (on our own), shop/walk around in the old city, Mom's birthday...and dinner & a concert!
