We're going through the border from Bosnia (BiH) back in to Croatia (on our way to Split) and Dad asks the border guard, as he's looking through our window, "Are they cute?" ARE YOU SERIOUS???!!! Nice Dad!
"People are selling their wares." I'm not sure how many times Mom repeated that one. We would drive by these stands and she'd say that every time. We did stop at one.
Anne always seems to be on the wrong side of the car. Every time I'd look out the window on the way to Dubrovnik I would say, "Wow! Look at that! It's so beautiful!" as I would stick my head in front of the window. She could never see anything. I told her to move over but she wouldn't. Then Dad said that on the way back she'd have a good view as we're driving to Split. Well, on the way to Split I saw something out of my window and said, "Wow!" Anne was all, "Why do I always seem to be on the wrong side of the road?" Haha.
Our first pee on the side of the road was done by Dad and Anne before Makarska. There was nowhere to stop and they were busting. Haha...they had a beautiful background though.
Stopped in Makarska for gelato and popped into a bakery. Their kiflice looked so good, but they only sold big platters of them. Darn! I had seen smaller bag in Zagreb, should've bought one. When you see something here, you just have to buy it. You never know if you'll see it again.
We arrived in Split and our rooms weren't ready. We dropped our stuff off and went searching for lunch. Finding your way through Diocletian's palace to find the burek place...HARD!!!
Oh the smells!!! People need to where deodorant over here. It's unbelievable...and even the young guys are soooo bad. Between garlic, the BO, and the fish market...woof!
Drove to Mestrovic's gallery. It was so interesting to see all the carvings/sculptures he made out of different materials: marble, stone, walnut, bronze...the wooden carvings of Jesus' life were very cool at the Kastolet, down the road from his gallery.
We had to find the lookout from Marjan mountain. So dad asks people, thinking it's just right up the hill and pretty straight forward. Oh my gosh, not easy at all. We asked people every road we turned on. Half of them didn't know how to get there. However, you can't drive straight up to the lookout. So we found the closest place, except I had to back 2 blocks up a very narrow hill with parked cars on the side, all to "get a shot" according to Dad. Dad said he went up there with Dida.
Had dinner on the Riva in Split. Dad had a whole fish, which was deboned at our table. Walked up and down the Riva. Hadn't had any dessert and saw a palacinka (pancake) vendor, had to have one. It had sugar and cinnamon on it. Never had that kind before. Very tasty! There were also Dalmatian singers on a stage after 9pm. Their songs were really nice. I even knew one! Dad said the songs were making him sad. Awww!
I was looking all over for my friends from work, but couldn't find them anywhere! "Maureen! Marianne!"

When I returned to the hotel I was hoping to have a message from Gary, Jennifer, Maureen & Marianne, but nothing! Oh well. Laku noc!
P.S. Anne enjoyed watching '27 Dresses' in the hotel that evening...oh, and room service. She ordered a chicken caesar salad from their menu, but got chicken in a pita. Interesting.
