Lake Bled

Oh Lily, you really are not as smart as Anne and I originally had thought. You tried to take us through the beautiful countryside again, with an estimated time of 5hrs from Salzburg to Bled. Really??? Mom was right this time. Could've gotten on the motorway a lot sooner than we did.

It only put us about 30 minutes behind. We still made good time and enjoyed the scenery along the way. Austria is so beautiful!

We arrived in Bled around 12:30pm. Went for lunch at a gorgeous spot right in front of the lake. The view, of course, was AMAZING! Kremna Rezina (cream dessert) ended the meal perfectly. Couldn't have eaten a whole one myself, but a few bites of mom's was all I needed. It was so  goooood! I ordered coffee with cream and I got coffee with whipping cream.

We headed down to the lake to catch a boat across to the island. Mom had read that you can end up waiting quite a while because the boats need a minimum number of people to go across. We had 6 in our boat, clearly that was not enough. We waited for almost 30 minutes until 6 more people joined us. It takes about 20 mins to get to the island, then they give you 30 minutes to walk around (which went by way too quickly), and then 20 minutes to get back. It was such a relaxing afternoon. The ride across the lake was beautiful.

The church has 100 steps and 4 out of 5 grooms can get their brides all the way to the top. Being the macho person that I am, I picked Anne up and made it to 40. I think I could've done 50, but didn't want to drop her. It's all on video. Our rower told us there are three weddings (max. number per day) every Saturday.

Dad's down at the bottom and Anne is about at the half-way point.

We later drove around the lake. It's the perfect place to go for a run. I have this thing about going for runs in different places I visit. Didn't do it. Thought about a morning run, but we're off to Zagreb tomorrow after breakfast.

We drove up to the castle on the cliff and to St. Martin's church (the white one in the pictures above). We ate at a pizzeria Mom had heard about just around the corner from the church. Great day! I think Anne said this was her favorite day so far. Honestly, I have loved every place we've been to and cannot pick a favorite at this point. It's getting late again. Hopefully I'll be able to sleep through the night tonight.

On to Croatia!!!
